Come learn the art of cyanotype with local photographer and artist, Abbie Foster Chaffee. Originating in the 1840’s, cyanotype is a printing process that uses UV light and natural chemicals to create monochromatic images in shades of deep cyan blue and white. Many cyanotypes are done using pre-treated paper, fresh and dried botanicals, and sunlight to expose the images. The result leaves behind a “shadow” (sometimes referred to as sun-printing). In this workshop instead of using botanicals, participants will be using their own photos to create unique cyanotype keepsakes.
Fun Fact: The term “blueprint” comes from the cyanotype process!
For this project, participants will be using the cyanotype method of alternative photo processing to turn a favorite photo into a unique piece of art. We will be learning about the steps that go in to creating a cyanotype; including: applying the solution to paper, using UV light, the rinsing process, and the small details that go into to creating a professional looking final piece. This is a beginner friendly project recommended for ages 12+. No previous experience required.
Cost: $45-All Materials Included. Pre-registration is required for this workshop.
**Once you are registered, you will be contacted via email by the artist with instructions on: -Choosing a photograph to use in your cyanotype project -How to send it to Abbie before the workshop. Each registered participant needs to send their photo BEFORE the workshop so that the artist can create a photo negative that will be used for each participant.**
